Cinema 4D Lite file shows up as exec file in After Effects CC and doesn't render anything

I replied to an old thread but didn't get a response: Re: Can't open .c4d file in After Effects, and the file is shown as exec file

So posting a new discussion here:

I created a Cinema4D file straight from After Effects CC (2017) but the saved Cinema4D file shows up as an exec file that doesn't render anything in After Effects. It still can be opened in Cinema4D Lite and works just fine there.

The comp sizes match the size set in Cinema 4D and everything. The file just still shows up as an exec file and only shows a black frame when placed into a comp in After Effects.

I've purged all memory and cache and also restarted the computer multiple times but that doesn't seem to solve the problem for me.

I haven't seen anyone answer this question, so if anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks!
