When an image is greyed out, this means the photo has previously been imported into Lightroom, and there is no reason to import it a second time.
You just go to the photo in the Library Module, and then perform whatever task you need to perform from there.
Hi dj, many thanks for responding.
I've literally just shot the images, and tried to upload them for the first time.
There have been bugs reported in the past where Lightroom thinks a photo is a duplicate when it is not a duplicate. In particular, this seems to happen a lot if people always reset the photo file numbering in the camera so each new batch of photos begins with file number 1. But whatever the cause, we need to figure out why Lightroom thinks this is a duplicate.
While I realize this is not a long-term solution, would you try renaming the photos on the camera card, so for example, if you have a photo named DSC_0001, then rename it to DSC_0001a and see if it will import.
Sadly still won't import dj.
Have considered deleting and reinstalling LR but concerned about how that would affect my library, any ideas?

Uninstalling and reinstalling is a waste of time, it will not fix this problem.
Try deleting your preference file. Preference file and other file locations | Lightroom CC and 6
OK, just off to a meeting, will try on my return. Thanks again x
