InDesign crashes every time I make changes within threaded text boxes

Please help!

InDesign crashes every single time I go in and make changes to threaded text boxes. At first I thought it was because there were inline anchored images but I've since removed them and it's still happening. The only thing I can think of that might be an issue is I'm using paragraph shading. Please help! I'm laying out a very long document and this is a major problem.
