I've noticed an issue happening now with the new LR where you go to edit the file, the file disappears in LR and won't open. This typically happens with .psd files but has happened with others. When you go to the file location on the hard drive all you have is the .swp file. I've found that renaming the .swp back to the original .psd extension that it resolves the issue.
Does anyone know why LR would corrupt the original and force me to go through this process?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
I'd start checking out your hardware. LR doesn't and won't do what you are seeing. But it could be caused by some type of hardware defect.

A quick Google reveals a couple of posts about similar symptoms:
This smells like some kind of obscure permissions issue on the files or folders, where LR or Photoshop tries to modify the PSD, fails not so gracefully without an error message, and leaves behind the temporary .swp file that was created during the modification process.
Please Help > System Info and report the exact version of LR and Windows or Mac you're running. Do the same thing in PS. (Note that LR often fools people into thinking incorrectly they have "the latest".)
