      some of my options are always greyed-out so I can not use them. I can not copy and paste. Regardless of how many layers I may have If I want to flip a layer (just one layer) it flips all of the layers the same thing happens if I want to crop something

          Suggest that you reset global preferences to default.

              Windows

               

              Step 1. Hold down the Alt + Ctrl + Shift keys as you click on the icon to open Elements. When asked if you want to delete the settings file, say yes.

              Step 2. Reset the preferences as above.

              Step 3. Close Elements and let the file regenerate.

              Macintosh

              Step 1. Hold down the Opt + Cmd + Shift keys as you click on the icon to open Elements. When asked if you want to delete the settings file, say yes.

              Step 2. Reset the preferences as above.

              Step 3. Close Elements and let the file regenerate.
