After Effects CS3- Make one layer take the shape of another

I'd like to have one layer take on (at least partly) the shape of another one.  For example, if a character is stuck in a tight pipe, I'd like the pipe to distort a bit and kind of take on that character's shape.  What could I use to do this?

This is the Mac version, by the way.

Thanks in advance.

one layer take on (at least partly) the shape of another one.

that depends on the source material: are we talking pixels or vectors? if you create a character using pixels you either draw the morphing frame by frame like traditional animation is done (which gives the best results) or try distort effects as Mylenium mentioned. bare in mind you are distorting pixels and if the bending is extreme, or if the shape is distorting the pixels to a degree it does not always look pretty or natural. if th

Any distortion effect you deem suitable. A pipe responding to a character being stuck inside could easily be simulated with Bulge. Other shapes may require other effects. Simply keep trying and explore these effects.
