Could we see a snippet of that crash log, perhaps? What version of your OS are you running? What version of CC 2017 are you running?
Does this still happen if you restart your machine, open AE, do nothing but close AE?
I tried restarting, then launching/quitting AE with all other apps closed. I then added apps one at a time.
It seems to work fine until, for whatever reason, it crashes after quitting.
If I click on "Reopen" on the crash log, it works fine again.
So I guess that's it. I just need to click on "Reopen" on the crash log.

Upgrade your Ae to 14.0.1
