    better way of collision detection?

      right now I'm experiencing problems with using the same speed in reverse for collision detection (such as +=5 being countered by -= 5). While this works most of the time, if the velocity of the moving object changes, or on occasion, is out of sync with the map, the moving object gets stuck like glue to the "wall".

      Is there some other method of stopping the velocity when colliding, without freezing the object in place?
