I usually keep all my raw data + catalog on my main laptop(t450s), backed up of course. Just found out that my school has a research lab with good desktops and Lightroom (Xeon CPU + good GPU).
Whats the most efficient way to move files+catalog back and forth to edit? Preferably moving as few possible files as possible. I tried merging catalog files, and that kind of worked, just needed to deal with duplicates back on the t450s. (Sidenote: I have a couple of harddrives I could use).
I've heard of smart previews+catalog, but i'm not sure how to migrate them back and forth.
External hard drive. Place all images and the catalog file, with Previews folder, on the external hard drive. Take the external drive with you and connect it to the school computer, open LR and then File > Open Catalog and browse to the catalog on your external drive.
Sync the files you want to work on to LR Mobile, then: lightroom.adobe.com That's the online editor.
