Filename template editor problem?

From import, copy, file renaming, edit, file name template editor comes on screen. As I do my custom inserts nothing changes an example area, the presets seem to be working fine...... have been through several how to videos, books no luck!!.... working on PC Lightroom CC currently updated...... going nuts.... worked fine on my laptop with previous version of Lightroom CC..... am I missing something? Thanks for all your help!!

Recent posts suggest there is a new bug in the 6.8 version.

Previous threads may or may not have a workaround.
