Thinking of getting a tablet for drawing

I'm thinking about investing in a tablet, like an iPad rather than a specific drawing tablet like a Wacom. I travel quite a bit and could do with not lugging my laptop around, but still want to have the ability to use Photoshop and Illustrator. I've been looking at things like the surface range with the stylus but they're not exactly cheap. I'm just looking for suggestions or recommendations if anyone has any ideas. Thanks in advance

Photoshop, as you know it, does not run on an iPad as it uses iOs as the operating system and not one of the standard Apple OsX versions like Yosemite, El Capitan or Sierra. Also the system specs are a little on the low side for Photoshop. There is an app that allows an iPad to serve as a quality tablet with Photoshop and you get the interface on the tablet screen, but it only works when linked by Wi-Fi to a Mac running Photoshop. Surface Pros run Photoshop well but are expensive and of course are Windows machines.

There is a cut down version of Photoshop that runs on the iPad and is pretty good although not the real thing
