I had recently updated CC in late 2016 and this issue started to occur, since then have updated to the latest version. My issue is i can't open another file when i have opened the first, even if i close the file all options are greyed out.

My workspace had changed and i can deal with that not that i really want too.

Hoping there is an easy explination as Adobe haven't replied to my facebook rant last year.

A reply would have been nice, but anyway...i uninstalled PS, AI & ID as i don't use these as much as PS, reinstalled PS and now works a treat, perhaps my hardware isn't what its cracked up to be.

Just out of curiosity can you still use the keyboard shortcuts such CTRL/O or CTRL/N?

The disabled menus problem used to happen with slower drives/machines. Try disabling tabbed documents in Photoshop's preferences:

Preferences>Interface...

Uncheck "Open Documents as Tabs" and "Enable Floating Document Window Docking"

Tried shortcuts, no good.

Tried Preferences but was already unchecked.

This is extremely frustrating, will try uninstall i think.

Did you expect a serious reply to a »rant«?

What are your OS and hardware?

What have you done for trouble-shooting so far?

Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:

Disable any plugins you have installed as well.

Also what does task manager indicate when PS is in the non responsive state?
