some minor cloning/spot healing maybe fifteen small points and some brush tools
Doing lots of brushing and/or spot healing is a known problem, which is made worse by turning on the GPU acceleration ... so the first thing to try is to turn off the GPU acceleration (you don't need it anyway) by going to Preferences->Performance tab->uncheck "Use Graphics Processor"
Thanks, but as previously stated I've tried both with the GPU turned on and off. I also did a project a few weeks ago with major edits and while slow nothing like what I am experiencing now.
"major edits" does not imply, and will not have the same effect, as "lots of brushing and/or spot healing"
If you have tried turning the GPU off, then here are some other things to try
- Perform the spot healing and brushing as the next to last step, and as the last step turn on the lens calibrations and transforms
- Do the brushing in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements
- get a faster 4-core CPU
By the way, there are threads here in this forum about slow performance of double Xeon CPUs, I'll leave it to you to search for them and see if that might also apply here
