but i've dual-pixel raw turned off. I can't wrap my head around why i'm able to import the pictures in lightroom on my macbook pro but not on my imac.
What is your version NUMBER of Lightroom on your iMac? Go to Help->System Info and report what version NUMBER of Lightroom is shown there.
When you are unable to import the photos on the iMac, you state you can see the thumbnails but can't import. What happens when you try to import? Describe this in detail. What is the exact word-for-word error message?
Lightroom version: CC 2015.8 [ 1099473 ].
I am unable to click on the import button at all. There are no error messages. When you click import in lightroom a window comes out and you will be able to view your pictures in small thumbnails, if you would like to import your images you have the option to "check" or "uncheck" them. In this window i am able to view the images as thumbnails but they appear faded, thus not allowing my to check those pictures for import.
Update: I reverted back to an older version of my iMac using the apple time machine and everything works fine. I hope it was a one time glitch. Never experienced this before in all my time using lightroom.

Faded usually means they have already been imported, once, and you're trying to import duplicates.
