Hello Adobe Staff,

Our application Shearwater Desktop always runs into an "Unidentified Developer" error and causes the install process to become unacceptable.

We package the file on Windows 8.1 using Adobe Flex 4.6 and code sign using a purchased certificate from Thawte. (We have attempted to sign with certificates from Xcode as well). Once compiled we commit the project then run the following Shell script to create the Mac installer (.dmg file):

adt -package -storetype pkcs12 -keystore airSigningCertificate2018.p12 -storepass password -target air ../ShearwaterDesktop_mac.air DiveBook-app.xml DiveBook.swf bin/ShearwaterConnectorMac bin/ShearwaterConnectorMac_LE builddate icons

adt -migrate -storetype pkcs12 -keystore Shearwater_SHA256_2016.pfx -storepass password ShearwaterDesktop_mac.air ShearwaterDesktop_mac_migrated.air

adt -package -target native ShearwaterDesktop_$1.dmg ShearwaterDesktop_mac_migrated.air

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

Download our application from our website here: https://www.shearwater.com/downloads/shearwater-desktop-download/

It immediately should pop-up the certificate issues on OSX Sierra.

These are our steps to fix the issue: https://www.shearwater.com/troubleshooting/shearwater-desktop-3-0-8-certificate-issues/

We have tried contacting Apple technical and administrative support and they have delegated the task to you, we have been struggling with this for some time now and would appreciate any advice.

Hi,

The issue is not Mac Sierra specific issue. Same behavior is observed on Mac 10.9 and Mac 10.11 if security and privacy setting is set to "App store and identified developers". Your app is not getting verified from Apple's end.

Thanks!

Thank you for getting back to me.

We posted this same question to Apple Tech support using one of our 2 tickets and they directed us back to Adobe.

I would really appreciate any help finding the right direction to take this.

This Mac posted solution just worked for us: macOS Sierra: Open an app from an unidentified developer.

Specifially, we followed these instructions:

  • Note: You can also grant an exception for a blocked app by clicking the “Open Anyway” button in the General pane of Security & Privacy preferences. This button is available for about an hour after you try to open the app.

To open this pane, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Security & Privacy, then click General.

Good luck!
