At the beginning of each line in Adobe Indesign CS5, I get these symbols: ^#.

Why do I keep on getting these symbols in Adobe Indesign CS5:  ^#.

It's terribly problematic - every single line starts with ^#.

Numbered lists start with #^:

If someone typed those in backwards, you would get what you are describing:

Set list type to None in Bullets and Numbering and that should take care of it. If not, come back and let us know. Here's how to get to Bullets & Numbering:

  • Click the Bulleted List button  or the Numbered List button  in the Control panel (in Paragraph mode). Hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) while clicking a button to display the Bullets And Numbering dialog box.
  • Choose Bullets And Num
