Im trying to create a set matte mask for a bunch of different layers I imported from AI. Each of the AI layers is a rectangle with a gradient going from black to grey. When I select the AI layer and then choose the set matte effect and pick my layer for the mask, instead of creating a mask that follows the contour of the shape layer, it creates a mask of the middle of the rectangle, half inside the shape layer and half out. Can anyone help me with figuring this out? I attached images of what im trying to explain. The red shape is the shape layer im trying to use to create the mask. The second image after using the set matte effect is what happens with the mask.
Use the native track matte functionality, not the effect or pre-compose. These are limitations with rasterizing vector data inherent to how AE's rendering pipeline works.
Thanks for your input. It was a pain having over 400 masks to make but in the end it was worth it.
