The only thing I can think of is that your keyframe at frame 10 isn't a
keyframe after all, but rather, a normal frame. When you added your motion
tween, did you see a dashed line between frames 1 and 10, or was it a
right-pointing solid arrow?

Rothrock Oct 14, 2008 1:52 PM (in response to andrewmcgibbon)Sounds like you aren't actually making a keyframe at 10, but just a frame. If it is just a frame it will have a little rectangle in it. If it is a keyframe it will have a little filled in dot.
If it is only a frame (and not a keyframe) then the instance at frame 10 is the same instance at fram 1 (or where ever your keyframe starts). You need a key frame to say, this is a "different" instance. -

andrewmcgibbon Oct 14, 2008 4:28 PM (in response to andrewmcgibbon)I'm at a bit of a loss. I have redone this several times making sure each time to put the key frame in. When I create the motion tween it it has a solid line with the arrow just like it is supposed to look.
If anyone is willing to look at this for me, I would greatly appreciate it.

If you can post this FLA somewhere, I'll take a look. You can contact
me directly on my website, if you like (quip.net) -- or (if your'e
comfortable with it), just post the URL here.

Well, I'm stumped! I downloaded that FLA file, opened it, and changed
the alpha in frame 1 to 0. Then I scrubbed the timeline and watched the
alpha tween from 0 to 100, as expected. So somewhere in your original list
of steps, something is akilter! ;)
I can verify that the motion tween was added correctly. That step is
the second last in your original list, so it sounds like we can narrow this
down to the last step:

My first thought was that you possibly tried to use the Color panel to
change the alpha of your symbol, but that panel only works for fills and
strokes, and it certainly wouldn't change the alpha in both keyframes.
When I changed the alpha on this end, I did this:
a) drag the playhead to frame 1
b) select the symbol by clicking it
c) select "Alpha" from the Color dropdown
d) drag the "Alpha Amount" handle down to zero

Thanks so much. That was the problem. That was certainly irritating and embarrassing. You can see how someone might confuse the two.
Best wishes,

Hey, no worries! Don't let it embarrass you. Everyone on this forum
has been through a learning curve with Flash.

Agreed. You can certainly use the Color panel to change the
characteristics of any fills and strokes *inside* a symbol, but the symbol's
characteristics (alpha, tint, etc.) are configured with the Property
inspector.
