Photoshop CC 2017 CTD faulting module asproxy.dll

I downloaded the latest PS 2017 trial. It crashes on start with asproxy.dll identified as the faulting module. asproxy.dll belongs to my VPN service and cannot be renamed or moved. The VPN application runs fine. This is on Win10, all latest updates and drivers.

Only way to make PS work is to uninstall the VPN app which is not a solution.

Wanted to subscribe but this is a deal breaker.

Any suggestions?
