I have been sent some photos for a web site but they are in pdf format. Any
suggestions for converting, is it possible?

Well yeah there's plenty of ways to do it. Try opening the PDF in Photoshop and doing a "file > save as". Is this just for web work? If Fireworks is your only tool then open the PDF and do a "Print Screen" and then paste the image into Fireworks for editing.

There are also a couple of select tools in Adobe Reader that allow you
to cut and copy - you could then paste into FW.
