How do I bend a whole vs just a piece of a two-colored line?

Once when I worked with a two-colored line (that I created with line tool), I discovered that I could bend the line as a whole (with selection tool), see Pic 1. Other times I can only bend one colored piece at a time, see Pic 2. My work would get a lot easier if I could bend the whole two-colored line at once but I don't know how I do that. Appreciate any help I can get!
