    Catalog Issues

    Janovilas

I have a Lightroom Catalog with approx. 516,000 images in folders organised by year - this evening, I noticed that the 2017 folders didn't have a visible parent folder, so I tried to add the parent folder (right click, Show Parent Folder). After doing that, I can no longer see any images in the 2017 folders (see first image below) and when I try to update the folder location, I get the error shown in the second image below.

Any suggestions as to what the problem may be or, more importantly, how to fix it?

      Thanks...

That is a bug in the LR database handling.

LR is not checking to see that the parent of "2017" already exists before trying to create it.

I don't remember how I worked around it the one time it happened to me.

          Give this a try:

          Exit LR.

Using Windows File Explorer, move the "2017" folder to a new parent.

In LR, do a "find missing folder" on the "2017" folder in the Folders panel.

Do all the "show parent" commands needed to get the current parent tree and the desired parent tree to show entirely.

Set LR to do a catalog backup on the next exit.

          Exit LR.

In Windows File Explorer, move the "2017" folder to the desired location.

In LR, do a "find missing folder" on the "2017" folder in the Folders panel.
