Start by converting the footage to something more to AE's liking like an image sequence. Using compressed formats always requires to decode large parts of a clip and produces temp files and that alone can be enough to crash. For everything else more info about the clip and a screenshot of its contents may be required. It could simply be completely unsuitable for tracking in the first place.

Quicktime should work or?

Quicktime is very compatible with After Effects, but it is overall safer to use a image sequence. I have not had this problem but try using a Quicktime format and see if it works and if it fails, use a sequence (With alpha=png, no alpha=img).
I cannot clearly see what kind of format you are currently using, by just try different ones until you get the results you want.
Shoot back if you need additional assistance.

Have you tried deleting the cache files and/or purge the memory?
It is a shot in the dark but it might work.

If you have the possibility to either go back to an older state/version of AE do that. It might be a bug that is reacting negatively to your current operating system or computer setup. You might also want to reinstall AE.
Have you also tried to update your setup with graphic drivers and so on?
I am sorry if this does not help you in any way, but the best thing is to make sure everything is up to date and problem solve by trying different versions of drivers and the program.

Hi MichaelH,
Let us know how we can assist you. The first thing I'd try is transcoding your source file. Does that help?
Thanks,
Kevin
