Crashing Problem.  Whenever I'm in text and hit Ctrl C and then Ctrl X to copy and paste InDesign crashes.  Does this happen to anyone else?  It's driving me mad since these keystrokes are automatic for me and I keep crashing!   Thanks!

Okay, so after testing, it only happens when I hit them in fast succession.  Like, I've hit Ctrl, then hit C, then X, without taking my finger off Ctrl.  Maybe I just need to slow down!

You posted your question in The Lounge , which is not a technical support forum. I moved your post to the InDesign forum. I also edited the title for brevity and clarity.

Housekeeping taken care of, let's get to your problem.

InDesign is crashing on your Windows computer when you use the Cut, Copy, and Paste shortcuts.

  1. What is it you're copying and pasting?
    1. Is it text from inside a text frame?
    2. Is it an entire text frame?
    3. Is it a placed asset (e.g. image)?
    4. Is it multiple objects?
    5. What is it?
  2. Does this happen with every document?
    • Try creating a brand new InDesign document with no other documents open.
    • Create a text frame and type some random text into it.
    • Highlight the text and press CTRL+C.
    • Did it crash?
  3. Does this happen with only a particular font?
    • Same test, but try it with different fonts.
    • There are troubleshooting step we can help you take if it turns out to be font-specific.
  4. If it only happens with one or a few documents, the documents might be corrupt.
  5. InDesign might have corrupt preferences.

Please let us know the results of these, even if you fix the crashing.

It seems to only be Ctrl X, I think.  It's text inside a frame.  It happen in every document.
