I am currently working on a project to overlay a community map (illustrator file) onto a 3D object (protein) to label it as it spins 360 degrees. However, I am relatively new to After Effects and do not know where to begin. Does anyone know of any resources or have any way of showing me where to start?
It is important that the illustrator file lines up and overlays onto the 3D object like a texture to label the protein domains.
That would be tracking, but honestly - as a newbie you probably bit off more than you can chew. Matchmoving can involve a million steps from the actual tracking to manual corrections, masking, color tweaks and so on. You will probably need to watch several tutorials for al lthe separate techniques.
I have some experience with other programs, but obviously not to this extent. Where would you begin? What tutorials do I need to look for?
I'd recommend a solid, reputable tutorial source for learning AE and start at the beginning. Lynda, PluralSight, and others have some good resources. If you want free, the old (but good) beginning in AE tutorial series by Andrew Devis over at CreativeCOW is still excellent. It starts on this page.
