After a hiatus, I am back working in LightRoom CC. Previously, when I Imported from a folder on my hard drive, LR maintained the file hierarchy in the Source folder. Now it wants to import using a file structure based on the dates the documents were created. This will, obviously, create a lot of work and wasted time in order to recreate the hierarchy I want to use. I have been unable to find any information on this. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Just use ADD instead of MOVE or COPY during import and the folder structure will be the same.  Then you won't have to worry about any of the destination settings.  (in fact they won't even be available)

Lightroom doesn't "want" to do anything on its own. You just need to pay close attention to the import dialog and be sure to configure it the way you want it. One of the options is to use dated folders. I don't use that. I choose into one folder and then into subfolder. I choose the main folder in the right-hand folder tree. Then I name the new subfolder where I want the images to be imported to.

Thanks, Jim, I understand that LR does "think" LOL However if I understand what you describe, it doesn't seem to make the work to create the file structure I want any simpler. It just happened automatically 15 months ago or so before a family emergency took me away from work. Is there a Preference or other setting somewhere that I'm missing? Or do I not quite get what you're suggesting?

Thanks for your continued assistance.

Thanks, Bob. I'll try that, too. Although I think I just found the setting I need!Screen Shot 2017-04-07 at 2.32.48 PM.png
