cutting an image

i,have,taken,a,photo,of,a,booklet,on,my,kitchen,table,and,i,want,to,remove,the,kitchen,table,but,keep,the,booklet,and,put,onto,a,light color,background,as,though,the,booklet,is,floating,in,mid,air/. I also want to add a shadow to the image,

can anybody please help??

You need to make a selection of the booklet, and copy the selection to a new layer.  Unfortunately, a book is probably going to be best selected with the Pen tool, which takes a bit of learning.  Check this tutorial, and paste the image to this thread.

Follow the excellent links provided by Trevor. Once you have the book on it's own layer use Layer Styles - to add a drop shadow.
