like i said, re-running the audition installer resolved it.
point of this thread was to file a bug (since no other mechanism appears to exist for this). As a user I should be able to go to the audition page, download the trial, and the installer should work. it doesn't.

all the cc apps should be installed using the cc desktop app. some can be installed directly, but that's only recommended if there's a problem with the cc desktop app.
anyway, if you think there's a bug: Feature Request/Bug Report Form
Then the Audition download page should download CC Desktop App, not an Audition installer.
