We work in Incopy CC2015 and Indesign. The editor updated hyperlinks in a recent assignment but all the changes seem to get lost or even worse these hyperlinks are missing. The hyperlinks were not behind urls but just text.

There’s not enough information here to help, I’m afraid.
Where are they getting lost? InDesign or InCopy? If the assignment and story are re-opened in InCopy, are the hyperlinks still there? Are both InCopy and InDesign fully patched? Have you tried using a layout workflow instead of assignments?

Well, to be honest, we don't know exactly where they get lost. But there are a lot of hyperlinks in the file. If they are edited to ie a new link and we reopen the indesign file they seem to get lost. We took off the 'shared destination' on all links as this made reopened earlier files in indesign and slowed everything down even more.Once you lose them in indesign they are gone in Incopy as well. What do you mean by fully patched? And what do you mean by layout workflow instead of assignments?
Can I share you an example maybe?

Fully patched: all bug fixes and updates.
Layout workflow entails opening the InDesign INDD file in InCopy instead of the ICMA file.

Indeed fully patched. And the layout workflow won't show the corrections as in the story/galley as the Incopy-users need...

The layout workflow has the exact same features as the assignment workflow. It simply saves the step of creating an assignment.

But the assignment is still necessary you just open the indd file instead of the assignment file with Incopy?
Problem is with a lot of these links that opening it in indesign and certainly in incopy is very slow...

Do those hyperlinks point to parts of the document not included in the assignment? If so, try opening the INDD file in InCopy and see if they stick. If they do, you may have stumbled on a bug.

No they are in the assignment. And I just opened the Indd file in Incopy but then we don't get to see the story/galley view and cannot see the track changes so is not an option unfortunally...

Then something is wrong. Opening the INDD file in InCopy should give you the exact same galley/story/track changes. Are you sure you’re opening the right file?

That's not the case if there is no assignment on the indesignfile...

If the InDesign file already has assignments, opening the INDD file in InCopy will allow you to edit the InCopy stories. If it's a new InDesign file you'll still need to export the stories for InCopy. They'll show up in the assignments panel under unassigned InCopy content.

Hi Bob
Just found the time to look further into this as the problem occurred in a new file. I did put an assignment on the file but opened in Incopy the indd file. Once I return in Indesign and open the same file a lot of the hyperlinks are gone. Is this a bug in Incopy/Indesign CC2015 that you are aware of?

Not that I'm aware of, no, but ever if there is, it will never get fixed in 2015. Try moving to CC2017 to see how that goes.

Just tried to open the same file in CC2017 and afraid still encounter the same problem... Is there a way I can show you maybe?

Can we see screenshots of the hyperlinks panel file open in ID and IC

Here they are

The dark one being Incopy and the light one being Indesign.

They seem to be going overset in InCopy. Why?
Copy link to clipboard

What does overset mean? They get lost indeed which is very annoying and time-consuming as we need to put them back each time...
No idea why

The OV means they’re overset. I’d really need to examine the files to know what’s happening. If you want to put them all in a dropbox folder and provide a link, I’ll take a quick look.

I can confirm that there are missing hyperlinks but about all I can do is to advise you to submit it as a bug:

Did you try as well in 2017? And the bug stayed right? Could I somewhere insert this conversation in the bug system?

I suppose you post a link to it.
