External Monitor Goes Black Using InDesign

My external monitor goes black while I'm using inDesign. If I hit command+tab to switch to another application I get my screen back but whenever I go back to inDesign it goes black again. Shutting down my mac and then powering it back on it will work for a while but then goes black. Also while inDesign is working there little glitches on the screen, colored lines will flash briefly on it. The external monitor works totally fine with any other application just not inDesign.

Hope someone has seen this or has any suggestions, thanks!
