    email address in mx:request

I am trying to use flex to call a 3rd web service that receives an email address as one of the parameters. When I call this web service from a browser using the http://:w3rpartywebservice.com/status?email=test@test.com I get the expected result, however when I call it using the attached code the call fails. When using wireshark to compare the message sent by the browser with that sent by flex application I see that the flex application converts the @ and the period in the email address to %40 and %2E respectively which does not happen via the browser.
How do I stop this behavior?
