You need to paste the image inside the box in the symbol editor window.

Hmm... So I need to work more in Symbol-mode in order to handle the masks?
What I really need is a similar option like "Clipping Mask" in Photoshop where you easily could affect the underlying layers with a mask.
Just to clarify the way it works in Fireworks.
In PS all the objects are layers which are acted upon where Fireworks does all the operations on object level. Even if operations are done on Layers, they are actually affecting all the objects with in it.
This is a major difference between the two apps.
Thanks for trying to explain it to this thickheaded person here :-)
Well, how do I re-use a bitmap or vector-mask on other objects then?
And is it possible to turn the original frame of the bitmap image off?
Not sure if I totally understand the question but here goes :-)
If you want to re-use an object as a mask just save it. If you are asking how to reuse a masked object with a different mask...Select the mask in Layers panel and drag and drop below the masked group. The mask is now separate. Place the mask object over the image, select both Modify>Mask>Group as Mask
Hope that helped
