1. Re: Flash menu not rendering in SSL site
Ben Minson Sep 22, 2008 2:41 PM (in response to rsford31)Do other Flash movies work on that site (if any)?
We have FlashHelp in SSL sites that works fine (except in IE, we get the secure/nonsecure warning). You may want to check with the site admin to make sure that Flash is allowed on the site. On a local drive, when the toolbar and nav pane aren't showing up, that typically means that the Flash is being blocked for security reasons.
Hope this helps,
Ben -
2. Re: Flash menu not rendering in SSL site
rsford31 Sep 22, 2008 2:55 PM (in response to Ben Minson)Is this controlled when generating the RoboHelp files? Our client has FTP access to their site and they generate their own files and FTP them up. I've downloaded this help file and placed it our dev area which is also SSL secured. We also have another manual of theirs that is older and is done in flash. This one displays fine in SSL. I get the warning but it still renders. The other one, the new one, does not. And it does not render in FireFox.
There is flash on the site's home page and it is working correctly. -
3. Re: Flash menu not rendering in SSL site
Ben Minson Sep 23, 2008 11:29 AM (in response to rsford31)I was talking about some server setting that could possibly be in place. But since other Flash is working, that's probably not it.
The "Auto-manage Flash security" option on the first page of the FlashHelp generation dialog has to do with viewing the output on your local machine and shouldn't have anything to do with viewing over the Web.
See this thread and let us know whether this is the problem. -
4. Re: Flash menu not rendering in SSL site
Ben Minson Sep 23, 2008 11:30 AM (in response to rsford31)By the way, what version of RH is your client using to generate these files? When you say they have an older manual, are you talking about a FlashHelp system that was generated using an older RH version? -
5. Re: Flash menu not rendering in SSL site
rsford31 Sep 23, 2008 2:11 PM (in response to Ben Minson)I was granted access to the manuals on our prod server (the site is set up where you have to log in to see the manuals). The manuals are behaving differently on the prod server than in our dev server. The following is happening on the prod server:
- the flash menus are appearing on our prod server in FireFox only.
- I had reported in our dev area that when I right clicked on the left hand side where the menus are to appear in IE that the Flash menu displayed. This is not the case in our production area.
- I get the "This page contains both secure and nonsecure items" when viewing the site on our prod server through IE
I've asked them what version of RoboHelp they are using and no one seems to know. It seems they don't regenerate their help files (manuals) very often. -

7. Re: Flash menu not rendering in SSL site
rsford31 Oct 6, 2008 8:48 AM (in response to Ben Minson)Hi, I did look at the thread. From what I've read the dll is something that is used to upload files. The client uses DreamWeaver as an FTP client to upload their files. They don't use RoboHelp.
I took a copy of the RoboHelp files and put them on our dev server. It works in this area in both FireFox and IE with an SSL cert. And there is no script folder in the default web site on IIS containing the dll. And the RoboHelp files work fine in FireFox in IIS.
I found out the client is using X5.0 but I downloaded the trial version for RoboHelp 7.0 generated some test help files using FlashHelp and put them in test folder off of the client's site and the Flash does not work IE but works in FireFox.
So, I'm really at a loss as to what is going on. -
8. Re: Flash menu not rendering in SSL site
rsford31 Oct 6, 2008 3:15 PM (in response to rsford31)Hi, just an update. Upon further investigation, it was found that the manuals worked in our user acceptance test area which is SSL secured. After the SSL certificate was re-installed for the site with the manuals they began working correctly. Thanks Benjaminson for all your help...and patience! -
