There's no way to tell from the preview icon "swatches" whether you're picking a vertical gradient or a horizontal one!
Ideally the preview icon could just use the data saved in the swatch it represents and effectively be a live preview of whatever attributes that swatch expresses.
The quotes there were because gradients aren't really swatches- I mean you can't save them and move them around like colour swatches.
I don't see why they couldn't be exported in a swatch batch- colours, patterns, gradients.
Wouldn't that be more sensible and useful?
