Newbie Here - Bounding Boxes

Newbie here -- I am trying to edit a document someone else created. When I first download the document, it shows "converting scanned page" (I have no idea if this has anything to do with the problem). Then, when I go to edit the file, there are hundreds of bounding boxes that I can't work around and each line of the paragraph is in a box that can't be edited.  Beyond frustrated!!!

PDF files were never meant to be edited in such a way. Doing so is risky

and often very difficult.

You need to ask for the original file used to create the PDF and edit it

instead.
