    Level of difficulty

Just wondering what level of proficiency is required to produce something like 'simpleviewer' or preferably a slightly more customised version of a photo website/gallery like http://www.foliosnap.com/index.php ?

I was able to check out FolioSnap given the URL, but I'm not sure what
"simpleviewer" is (maybe a different website, or is it a Flash component?).
What I see with FolioSnap is a full-on content management system. It's more
than just a gallery, and seems to include a whole website geared toward
          galleries.

If that's what you're asking, I would call that an advanced project,
going on a scale from Basics, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert.

            Thanks David,
That is very helpful. "SimpleViewer is a free, customizable Flash image viewing application." from description on site.
Pretty good for free but doesn't have that level of customization a photo site may typically want. I have used it on my site but need a little more. Simpleviewer is also geared towards galleries. If you can have a look here at the Pro version http://www.airtightinteractive.com/simpleviewer/pro/
I have only used Flash in version 4! so.. maybe it will make the whole process easier if most of the work is done in the Pro version. I'll check it now myself as I only downloaded the basic SV a year ago and used it through Aperture.
            Thanks for the response.

For $45, that Pro version does a lot! That's an excellent price. If I
were going to build something like that myself, it would take a couple days,
and I charge in the neighborhood of $100/hr.

If you haven't worked with Flash since version 4, you may be in for a
big surprise. ActionScript 2.0 is considerably different from the
ActionScript in Flash 4. In fact, it's at least as different from that
scripting language as the new ActionScript 3.0 is from 2.0. I don't mean
that to discourage you in any way ... but be aware that the learning curve
              is likely to be steep.

Of course, if you leave the source code as is, it looks like you can
always use the pre-compiled slideshow, and that ought to work just fine.

Sure thing! I hope someone else chimes in, because I'm sure an
additional opinion or two would help you gauge it better. Remember, my
assessment of that other software takes into account the non-Flash extras,
including the (I'm guessing) server side code, and integration with the
              website itself.

Well I have a friend who uses the current version and might be better equipped
to modify the code etc. I thought SVPro was pretty good value as well. I guess that guy is doing good business
with it. Mighty useful for people who know nothing!

Don't know much about that myself but yes, it would be good to hear other ideas.
                Thanks again.
