Suddenly when I try to create a new document (portrait A4) via File > New > Document I get a white portrait document overlaid with a gray landscape box and when I export (eg to jpeg) I get an export of the grey box content not the page. It's a bit like artboards in Illustrator. How do I get rid of it?
Also I cannot make a change to millimetres stick, the New Document screen always defaults to picas.

To change your default settings, close all documents, then go Preferences > Units, change to desired measurement units and click OK.
That's all

Oops, sorry, the grey box disappeared on a hard reset (not restart), but still can't make the measuring units stick.
