Adaptive Form submitting to AEM workflow, error thrown

I have an AEM workflow setup, with a simple generate document of record task, and finish with an assign task

When the adaptive form submit, i can see the xml being created, but somehow at the step of generate document of record, it fails with this error:

Caused by: com.adobe.granite.workflow.WorkflowException: java.lang.Exception: Can't save node under node of type file
