I have moved all my photos over to a new Seagate External 5 TB Hard Drive and when I began to move over the lrcat I did not know that it would take so long.
I have a new Dell Inspiron 7000 and it has been transferring in 500 photos at a time, but it has been on for 4days at the current rate will take another 4 days to complete. Is this normal? What will happen if I have to exit the transfer? It is transferring 83,000 photos.
You simply need to transfer the catalog which should take few minutes to copy to the hard drive.
Take a look at this article Photoshop Lightroom catalog FAQ to know how to move just the Lightroom catalog to a different locaion.
Let us know if that helps.
You should describe in great detail this "transfer" process you are using.
Normally you could be easily doing this with a simple drag-drop using Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder.
You definitely do not want to be doing this inside of Lighroom using the Folders panel.
