    Animation: settings window greyed out

      Animation: settings window greyed out

      Hi,

      I used FW MX 2004

I asked an Internet colleage to animate a filmstrip for me, straight
vertical movement, and send me the png file. She sent a gif file which
moved as required. I then requested the png file so that I could adjust
      the speed.

When the png file came, I observed the following:

1 The filmstrip was visible all right and moved as wanted in the
      Original display.
2 The preview display showed only the empty canvas.
3 The frames panel showed the sort of Frames I expected.

However, when I click on Modify | Animations, all sub-options including
      Settings are greyed out.

The png file can be seen at the following URL:
      http://www.tudo.co.uk/filmstrip/filmstrip_smooth.png

Did I make a mistake in not selecting something prior to trying
      animation settings,
or did the animator not send me the correct png file, lock it in some
      way, etc?

      ---------------------------

btw is there a way of changing ALL the delay values in the Frames panel
      in one go?

      Thanks.

      Adrian

Those settings only work if you are animating a symbol. The film strip
          wasn't converted to a symbol.

Shift + select all the frames in the frames panel and double click on
the delay setting for the last one.

            Hi, Linda,

Thanks, I had a hunch that 'symbol' was at issue. I created the
filmstrip as is and have to pay a sum agreed in advance to the person
            who animated it.

It was agreed that she would send png and gif file. Then she sent only
a working gif animation. I demanded the png file (to enable me to
adjust the speed) and received the file you have seen, i.e. filmstrip
            not made into a symbol.

She must have converted it into a symbol before creating the gif file.

Can I demand that she converts the filmstrip into a symbol or do I have
to do this myself (however easy it presumably is).

If I do the conversion into symbol myself there is virtually nothing she
has done to earn her money.

In brief: Can I demand that she sends me a png file where the filmstrip
            is a symbol?

            Thanks.

That's between you and your animator. I'm not going to step between you. :-)
