I'm having the same problem. Firefox displays my flash content, but IE insists Flash player isn't installed. When I output the value of GetSwfVer(), it says -1, which is the default value, so apparently somethings not working. Any ideas?
It is also doing the same thing with me, so I had to uncheck the box. I think something is wrong with it and needs debugging by Adobe/Macromedia developers..
I have encountered similar symptoms and learned that secutrity settings in IE can block the detection scripts - Active-X and JS restrictions can cause the flash detection script to think there is no plug-in available when in-fact it is available. Although, I have not specifically tested to identify which settings create the problems.
I recently found an article at this site that discusses this and provides an alternate technique that I plan to incoprorate.
I am not a programmer so I may be a bit dazzled by brilliance (or baffled by...), but this article sounds quite compelling.
Yup, I've switched to using the swfObject and it works wonderfully. Not only that, it's even more easier to setup than the flash detection kit. Not bad indeed.
