Failing to replace Image footage in apex file

I was trying to automate the rendering process by operating aepx file and then rendering with aerender executable.

It worked fine sometimes that I replace footages by setting the "fullpath" property of <fileReference> node in aepx file.

However, I found the approach does not work if I replace the original image with another one that is not in the same folder.

Anyone could help with experience on operating aepx file?
