    FLASH PRELOADING PRIORITIES

    Level 7
      hi,

my 300kB swf file has 57% of its size in 1.st frame. Even if the first
frame is blank. I placed simple preloader there and the PRELOADER SHOWS
AFTER 57%. I'm desperate - such a preloader is useless...

I guess that there are some embedded fonts initializing in 1.st frame or
something. Is there some way to tell flash to load my preloader first?
some kind of priority or something.

      thanks

          hi there

I had the same question (published under actionscript forum):
"I read a few articals on preload, I tried cuple of different methods, but the same problem kips not letting it work:
The first 2 frames contains ONLY the preload stuff. the rest of the movie from frame 3 contains heavy stuff (700 KB).
When I check the movie in the bandwidth profile it shoes me that the first frame contains all the 700 KB.
What happends is that the preload movie is not working until all the movie is loaded - and then I dont need it any more...
          Did I do anything wrong?
          Waiting with you for help!

This is because you have stuff in your movie that is set to be loaded before frame 1 - like embedded
font, or items in library set for linkage export via actionscript. these will be loaded before frame
1 and subsequentally before any preloader.

              thanks chris

your post was inspiring and really helped, I unchecked all "export in
1.st frame" fields, but still my preloader starts at 48%
I've used pretty much embedded fonts, but don't know how to tell flash
              to embedd them after frame1.
              any idea?

              THANKS

There is a way to go into publish settings, flash tab, set AS to AS 2.0 and click Settings next to
it - and tell it not to embed fonts in frame 1 (my mistake earlier - there is no frame "0").

i sent too soon - publish settings > Flash > Settings (next to AS version) > Export Frame for
Classes: type in a different frame number (after your preloader but before your text is used in your
                    movie). OK - test movie.

another way is to open Library - upper right corner "Add Font..." and follow the menus. then drag an
instance of this movie clip containing your text field with embedded font to frame after preloader.
Font should get loaded on this frame.
