    Someone help before I throw my brand new computer out the window.

      Lightroom CC.

       

      I'm develop mode, it's lagging terribly and the screen keeps going black with the not responding message. Lasts a few seconds and then it comes back to normal until I try to make another adjustment. I've updated, restarted, optimized.. what else can I do? Thanks!

          First thing to do is turn off the option to use the GPU. LR Preference, Performance tab, Un-check Use GPU

            tell us the hardware on your new computer

             

            • CPU Make and Model
            • Memory amount
            • GPU make and Model
            • Monitor size in pixels (not inches or centimeters)

             

            Also please make sure that you have Lightroom CC 2015.10.1 which is the current version. DO NOT ASSUME that you have the current version. You MUST check to see what version is installed by going to Help->System Info. If you have an earlier version, they make sure to update.

              Do you by any change have a computer with more then 8 Cores (Actually more then 8 threads)

               

              If so, Lightroom will behave this way and has done so for a very long time (2 years) and I have asked Adobe for fix multiple times without any solution.

                  Please try this: it says you have three monitors, what happens if you turn off two of them so that the only monitor in use is one of the 1920x1080 monitors. Does the problem go away or get better?

                   

                  Are you doing lots of brushing and/or lots of spot healing on your photos?

                        No it is because you are using a CPU with more than 4 cores and 8 threads. This has been a known problem for some time.

                        Doesn't matter if your CPU is not a Xeon. The problem is it has more than 4 cores.

                          Sorry, but the problem with more than 4 cores only affects some people. I have a i7-5930K with 6/12 cores and it does NOT have a slowdown. If I reduce the cores to 4/8 that causes a slowdown, but using all 6/12 is faster than with 4/8. So the problem you have is not just the number of cores; something else is also involved which thankfully I don't have.

                              Good point, Bob Frost. The solution has not been confirmed by the original poster, and there are many other causes of slowdown.

                                So you all are way above my knowledge of computers, but I appreciate the feedback! So if my cores are the issue, how do I fix it? I should add, I've had adobe support make changes to my computer 3 times now and it all seems to work fine until about 10 minutes into editing and it starts the lagging/not responding thing again. Could that mean anything?

                                    So basically your suggestion is to not have the full flexibility of dual monitors and accept that Lightroom is ultimately a flawed program.  Unacceptable advice.

                                      No. We are trying to determine what is causing your performance issues. If the system runs better with a single 1920x1080 display then you can try adding the 4K display. Keep in mind the LR Secondary display is not supported by GPU acceleration. Assigning the Secondary display to your 4K monitor will most likely cause performance issues. I would use a 1920x1080 display for the Secondary and 4K monitor for the LR Main Window.                                         That was not the suggestion.

                                         

                                        The suggestion was to DIAGNOSE the problem by trying only a single monitor.

                                         

                                        No one has yet suggested that this is a long term solution.

                                            When was the last time you cleaned the dust out of the system and checked the fans? When the CPU starts to get hot it throttles down to a lower speed.

                                              I would still advise trying disconnecting the monitors just to see what happens.

                                                Honestly haven't at all. The computer was custom built less than 2 months ago.

                                                  Does this help any? This is like a foreign language to me, but these are views when I was trying to export roughly 50 images. Took about 10 minutes for lightroom to complete.
