I have this on the right sidebar:

and choose Fill and SIgn - then get this:

And click on the SIgn option - I see no Appearance Drop down box or Text option.

I was referring to when you use a Digital Signature field, which is what the image you posted above is from.

The Fill & SIgn tool provides the Sign Button above which generates this:

Right clicking on this does not provide other options.

I do not believe I was using a Digital Signature field - just Fill & Sign from the tool bar on the right.

It does not appear to correspond with the Signature Appearance in Preferences - which has the information I am seeking.

This is not a real digital signature. It's just a comment with hand-written text in it.

The tool I am using in DC is "Fill and Sign" and the option is the icon marked "Sign"

It generates the last entered jpg above.

I don't understand how that process of signing doesn't enter a digital signature, but merely a comment with handwritten text.

What other process is there for entering a digital signature?

If the author of the form added a Digital Signature field to the file you

could click it and truly sign it, or you need to use the Place Signature

option.

If you're not seeing the Sign Document dialog where you select your

signature profile and enter a password to apply it, it's not a real Digital

Signature, just a facade that looks like it...

The Place Signature option is in the "Digitally Sign" icon of "Certificates" - an item in the Tools Tab but not in "Fill & Sign" on the Tools sidebar.  This has the selection process and password requirement, yielding the information I was asking about on the right in the first box above.

I am not sure what the purpose of the other Fill & Sign option, included on the toolbar, adds to the situation, especially where the signature option in Certificates is not as readily available.

Thanks for helping.
