I have photographs of buildings in cities as well as those in places open to the public. In Kyoto, for example, I captured nice photos of the Golden Pavilion. While in Tokyo, I took some photos of a Teahouse in the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. Would I need a release to put any of those photographs on a stock image site?
Going forward, how can I tell if an image of an item such as a public statue, building, etc. needs such a release?
Thank you for your best thoughts!
If it is a privately owned building and is the main subject of your image then you will likely need a signed property release. You can review our policiy on property releases and see a list of known image restrictions here: Legal Guidelines for Adobe Stock Contributor program
I see photos of this building on As and I am doubtful that many people have
a release for the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto, Japan. If I see other photos of
a place am I safe to make the assumption I am OK to submit similar photos?
Thanks again for your consideration.
