When in creative cloud, I click on update (because there is an update available) but it says that the update failed... Does anyone know why? I got a new camera and I can't import any photos.

Which operating system?
Have you checked the error log for error messages or error codes? Something to give us a clue for troubleshooting.

It says, "download error, please retry or try again or contact customer support". I have no idea what to do... I have the one time purchase Lightroom 6, I don't pay for it monthly. That shouldnt have anything to do with getting the new update should it?

Where exactly are you downloading the update from?
Your original post says creative cloud but you have version 6 standalone so you should be able to go to Help > Updates.
