Follow-up: If I run the swf file I do get the There was a problem error message.
I have the same exact problem. I have ran the code in another example using that data and it runs fine, but for some reason this example dies for me.
It is Exercise 4, and the solution nor my code using the starter seems to work.
I get this stack dump if I remove the fault handler:
[RPC Fault faultString="Error #2148: SWF file file://localhost/Users/me/Desktop/flex/Ex4_Solution/bin-debug/AdobeODT.swf cannot access local resource assets\roomList.xml. Only local-with-filesystem and trusted local SWF files may access local resources." faultCode="InvokeFailed" faultDetail="null"]

That's reassuring that it's not just me :-) Hopefully, someone will know how to make this work.
I just copied their code for the first day 2 exercise and pasted it over mine and the rooms availability now appears.

Well, yeah, exercise 2 isn't pulling from an xml file. It is loading data from an Array.
There was one that was using the HTTPService that didn't work and now it does. Doesn't matter. On to the next one.
