If it happens with every file you try, restore your InDesign preferences. Here's how:
If it only happens with one file, it may be corrupted, and save it as an IDML file:

In addition to what Steve said, can you also let us know if you are using InDesign GPU Performance?
To check it, just see if you have a section named GPU performance and that option is checked on in Indesign preferences.
Well, the manual trashing of preferences (which I did first( DID NOT work. However, the multiple key command on restart did. Go figure.
As far as GPU performance, InDesign tells me my graphics card is incompatible (Nvidia GeoForce GT 750M 1024MB)...
BUT Illustrator and Photoshop use it just fine.
