Yes, SWFs with debug info should be able to be profiled. However, you must be running Flex Builder to use the Profiler. It is not included in the SDK. More info here:
at the bottom of this page: http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=profiler_4.html#230962
it says I have to open up the "flex profiling" perspective to profile an external SWF
now, this page says the profiling perspective is only included with the pro version of flex builder 3:
can I not use the free Flex Builder for linux to do this?
Yes indeed. We found out weeks ago that you can get Flex Builder 3 and then upgrade to Flex Builder 3 Professional (entering an upgrade license number) or get directly Flex Builder 3 Professional with the right license. The install is the same. Only the license number differs.
And yes, you need Flex Builder 3 Professional to use the Profiler.
I've got flex builder 3 professional, but I can't get the player to connect to the profiler/debugger in flex. I've tried this both by launching the .swf in a browser, and trying to get flex to launch the .swf in its own player. I've turned off my Windows firewall (i'm on XP) and tried to connect through both localhost and 127.0.0.1 to no avail. What can I do?
